Explore two of France's ancient hilltop cities while you develop your photography skills. This Experience will take you to the cities of Angouleme and Poitiers, both located on hilltops, but both very different in feel and nature. Angouleme feels distinctly southern and has a gritty nature influenced by its prominent street art. Poitiers being one of France's oldest university cities can be seen as more picturesque and classical in nature. In Poitiers Justin will also invite you into atelier 161, his work studio in the heart of the city, and talk about his archive and other work. There will also be opportunities to photograph and explore the village of Verteuil including a tour of the chateau.

ANGOULÊME : the international capital of Bande Dessinée (comic books), the city has a dedicated museum and many street murals celebrating this art form. The Promenade des Ramparts encircles the hilltop city centre and offers great views and architectural features. The Charente river winds its way through the city providing a contrasting and relaxing green space.

POITIERS : Parc de Blossac is one of the most beautiful parks in France covering 9 hectares close to the city centre. A number of exquisite churches including Eglise Notre-Dame le Grande and Cathédrale Saint-Pierre. Marché Notre-Dame features many indoor and outdoor sellers and offers an exciting insight into the local food traditions and the continuing central role of the market in French life.

Accommodation is in the 161 Experience house in the village of Verteuil. The house is three star and sleeping will be in shared rooms on first and second floors of the house. There is a shared bathroom on the first floor. Breakfast, tea and coffee and other refreshments will be provided.

A French breakfast will be provided each morning with fresh croissants and bread straight from the boulangerie opposite the house, along with fruit and yoghurt.

A "plat de jour" lunch will be eaten as a group in a local café or restaurant in the cities we visit.

Dinner will be eaten as a group at a restaurant in the village of Verteuil. There will also be an option to visit the local wine bar after dinner where we can continue our conversation about the day’s photography if participants wish.
